Why you should listen to the sound (and smell) of your garage door

The first thing you need to consider is the sight of your garage door. By doing this, it will actually be easier for you to find out if there is a part that needs replacement or maintenance. Ensure that you do this inspection at least once in a month to prevent any situation from getting out of hand.  So, what exactly are you going to look for during this inspection?

 First, ensure that are no pieces of material along the garage door tracks. Such materials can hinder the efficiently of the garage door and with time, they can also lead to serious problems.  Other things that you need to look for include rust forming, bending or discoloration which when sported early; it will be easier to prevent any serious damage.  You also should not ignore abnormal wear and tear, and paint chips. After making sure that every part of the garage door is inspected and you notice any problems, it is best to contact garage door repair services as soon as possible.  If they do not give you advice over the phone, they can as well travel to the site and confirm the main cause of the problem.   The latter is actually better since it will be easier to handle the issue in the right way if you know the main cause of the problem.

Another issue that you need to pay close attention to is the sound that your garage door produces.  Knowing that your garage door has a problem at the time when the issue can be managed will save you a great deal of time and money.  Clucking noises, thuds, and unusual grinding are clear indications that your garage door needs to be checked by a professional.

Do you know that the smell of your garage door can also indicate a problem? Yes, it actually does, and one of the causes is when the garage door is infested by pests. Pests infested garage doors usually cause a rotting smell, and it is important that you call an exterminator when you are sure of pests on your garage door.  You should also pay close attention to any burning or smoky smell on the door. In fact, you should avoid using the garage door in such a case, until you have it checked.
